Installation

Step-by-step instructions with pictures: user manual (online) or PDF.

  1. Windows: run MaxIECGateway_Setup_1.1.1.exe and follow the wizard. It installs and starts the MaxIECGateway Windows service. Linux: tar -xzf maxiec-gateway_1.1.1_linux-x64.tar.gz, then cd maxiec-gateway-1.1.1 and sudo ./install-linux.sh.
  2. Open http://localhost:5000 in Chrome, Edge or Firefox on the gateway computer and choose the administrator password.
  3. On Devices, add each Modbus device: Modbus TCP (IP address, port 502), Modbus RTU (COM port, baud rate, parity) or RTU over TCP, with unit ID and poll interval, or add it from a device template.
  4. On Mappings, map coils, registers and register bits to IEC type IDs, IOAs and common addresses (or import a CSV file). Changes apply immediately.
  5. On Settings, check the IEC 104 port and timers (or enable IEC 101 on a COM port).
  6. Connect the SCADA master to port 2404, send STARTDT and a general interrogation, and watch the exchange on the Traffic page.
Network note: the Windows installer can open TCP port 2404 (IEC 104) and port 5000 (web interface, local subnet only) in Windows Firewall. Allow port 5000 only from trusted engineering computers (or set the allowed-networks list), keep the gateway on a protected OT network, and choose a strong administrator password on first start: the web interface asks for it.

Activating a license

  1. Buy a license; the key arrives by email.
  2. Open the License page of the web interface.
  3. Enter the key and click Activate (internet needed).
  4. The key is active on one computer at a time. To move it, click Deactivate on the old computer or release it in the license portal.

After 30 days you need a license key to keep using the gateway. Enter the key on the License page of the web interface; your devices and mappings are kept.

During the trial each session runs for 15 minutes. Restart the gateway to begin a new session. A license removes the limit.

No. One license is active on one computer at a time; buy one license per gateway computer. You can move a license to a new computer at any time: Click Deactivate on the License page of the gateway on the old computer, or release it in the license portal (license key + purchase e-mail), then activate the key on the new computer. If the old computer is broken, the portal or support can release it for you.

Only for license activation and a periodic online check. The gateway keeps working offline for up to 30 days between checks. Modbus and IEC traffic never leave your network.

The installer registers Max IEC Gateway as a Windows service that starts with Windows, without a logged-on user. On Linux the install script sets it up as a systemd service.
