1. Introduction

Max Energic Apps ("we", "us") publishes Max IEC Gateway (the "Software") and this website. This policy explains what personal data we process when you visit the website, buy a license, activate the Software or receive email from us, why, and for how long.

2. What the Software does not send

Max IEC Gateway talks directly to your Modbus devices and SCADA masters on your own network. Process values, Modbus and IEC 60870-5 traffic, device addresses, point mappings, history data and log files stay on the gateway computer and are never sent to us.

The only requests the Software makes to our server are license activation and verification and the update check described below.

3. Data we collect and store

3.1 When you buy a license

  • Payment: processed by PayPal. We never receive card or bank details. Our server confirms the order with PayPal and stores the PayPal order ID, transaction ID, amount, payment status and a short summary of PayPal's confirmation.
  • License record: the name and email address entered at checkout, the license key, its status and the creation date.

3.2 When you activate or verify a license

The Software sends the license key and information about the computer so that a license can be limited to one computer. For each activation we store:

  • a machine ID, a hash derived from hardware identifiers (on Windows) or the operating system's machine ID (on Linux), not the raw identifiers themselves;
  • on Windows, the processor ID and motherboard serial number, used only to recognise the same computer after a hardware change;
  • the computer name;
  • the IP address of the request;
  • timestamps of activation, last check and deactivation.

Licensing events (activation, verification, deactivation and rejected attempts) are written to an audit log with the license key, machine ID, computer name, IP address and time. You can see and deactivate your computers in the self-service license portal.

3.3 Update check

The Software downloads a small version file from this website to see whether a new release exists. Like any web request it reaches our server with your IP address. Version 1.0.x also includes its machine ID in this request. From version 1.1 the update check sends no license key, machine ID or other identifier.

3.4 Email

  • We email your license key after purchase, and service emails about your license (for example a notice when the device limit is reached, or a key you asked us to resend).
  • We may send update announcements for new versions to license holders. Each announcement has an unsubscribe link; if you unsubscribe we keep your email address and the date on a suppression list so we do not email you again.

3.5 Security and abuse prevention

To protect the licensing and payment endpoints we apply rate limits. Rate-limit counters are keyed on a one-way hash of the IP address and expire automatically after a short time window. Server logs record technical events such as order IDs and errors; email logs may contain the recipient address.

3.6 Support requests

If you email us, we keep your message and address to answer it.

4. Website analytics (Google Analytics)

This website uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to measure page views, traffic sources, approximate location and device and browser type. GA4 sets first-party cookies (such as _ga) to recognise returning browsers. Google receives your IP address with each request and, according to Google, uses it to derive approximate location without storing it. You can block these cookies in your browser or install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on. We do not put email addresses, license keys or order details in page addresses, so they are not sent to Google Analytics.

5. How we use the data

  • to deliver your license key and confirm your purchase;
  • to activate and verify licenses and enforce the one-computer limit;
  • to prevent fraud, key sharing and abuse of our servers;
  • to provide support and handle refunds;
  • to tell license holders about updates (you can unsubscribe at any time);
  • to understand how the website is used and improve it.

6. Sharing

We do not sell or rent personal data. It is shared only with service providers needed to run the service: PayPal (payments), Google (website analytics), our web hosting and email providers, and authorities where the law requires it.

7. Retention

  • License, purchase and activation records, the audit log and email records are kept for as long as needed to provide and enforce the license (a lifetime license has no end date), to prevent fraud and as required for tax and accounting.
  • Rate-limit records expire and are deleted automatically.
  • The unsubscribe list is kept so that your opt-out keeps working.
  • Analytics data is kept according to our Google Analytics data-retention setting.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to object to or restrict its processing, and to receive a copy of it. Deleting license data also deactivates the license. To make a request, email support@maxenergic.com.

9. Security

The website and licensing API use HTTPS. Access to the licensing database is restricted, and machine IDs are stored as hashes.

10. Children

Max IEC Gateway is a professional engineering tool and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

11. International transfers

Our service providers (such as PayPal, Google and our hosting provider) may process data in countries other than your own.

12. Changes to this policy

We post changes on this page and update the date at the top.
